The Ten Commandements of God

And now a man came to him and asked: “Master, what good deed must I do to possess eternal life?” Jesus said to him: “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is one alone who is good. But if you wish to enter life, keep the commandments.”
    (Mt 19, 16:17)

“Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish, but to complete them. In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke is to disappear from the Law until all its purpose is achieved. Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the Kingdom of Heaven.”
    (Mt 5, 17-19)

1 Then God spoke all these words. He said: “I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you lived as slaves. You shall have no other gods to rival me. You shall not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earth beneath or in the waters under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them.”
(Ex 20, 1-5); Dt 5, 11)
It is written: “The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.”
(Mt 4, 10)
I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.
2 You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.
(Ex 20,7 ; Dt 5, 11)
Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors: “Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow.” But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
(Mt 5, 33-34)
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
3 Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day. Six days you may labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord, your God. No work may be done.
(Ex 20, 8-10 ; Dt 5, 12-15)
Then he said to them: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
(Mc 2, 27-28)
Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day.
4 Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you.
(Ex 20,12; Dt 5, 16)
He was obedient to them
(Lk 2, 51)

The Lord Jesus himself recalled the force of this “commandment of God.”
(Mk 7, 8-13.)

The Apostle teaches:
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother. This is the first commandment with a promise, that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth. ”
(Eph 6:1-3; cf. Deut 5:16.)
Honor your father and your mother.
5 You shall not kill.
(Ex 20, 13; Dt 5,17)
You have heard that it was said to your ancestors: “You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.”But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment...
(Mt 5, 21-22)
You shall not kill.
6 You shall not commit adultery.
(Ex 20, 14 ; Dt 5, 17)
You have heard that it was said: “You shall not commit adultery.” But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
(Mt 5, 27-28)
You shall not commit adultery.
7 You shall not steal.
(Ex 20, 15 ; Dt 5,19)
You shall not steal.
(Mt 19, 18)
You shall not steal.
8 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
(Ex 20, 16 ; Dt 5, 20)
Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors, “Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow.”
(Mt 5, 33)
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
9 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass, nor anything else that belongs to him.
(Ex 20, 17 ; Dt 5, 21)
Everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
(Mt 5, 28)
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
10 You shall not covet (…) anything else that belongs to him.
(Ex 20, 17 ; Dt 5, 21)
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.
(Mt 6, 21)
You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?" He said in reply, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." He replied to him, "You have answered correctly; do this and you will live."
    (Lk 10, 25-28)
